Longer than the Boeing 747-400 and the Airbus A380, the quad-engine Airbus A340-600 is a long-range, wide-body jet that was designed to compete against and replace early variants of the Boeing 747. Although similar in passenger capacity at around 380 passengers, it betters the Boeing 747 with approximately 25 percent better cargo capacity. The Airbus A340-600 initiated service in 2002 and was eventually replaced by the Airbus A350-1000.
