MIG-29A Fulcrum 3-6133, IRIAF, Tehran, 2010s (1:72)
The MiG-29 is a twin-engine supersonic fourth generation air superiority jet fighter developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The aircraft entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1983 and still is in use with them as well as equipping over twenty four other countries over the years. The NATO designation for the MiG-29 is Fulcrum and it was designed to counter the American F-16 and F-18. The MiG-29 was first seen in the West in 1986. The MiG-29 (9-13) is designated the Fulcrum C.
In 1989 the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) contracted to purchase 20 MiG-29; 14MiG-29A and 6 Mig-29UB for the 11th TFS. The newly created Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Air Force was to receive 16 MiG-21s from East Germany but that didnt materialize so an additional 11 MiG-29As were purchased. In January 1991 as a result of Operation Desert Storm 144 Iraqi aircraft fled to Iran of which 4 were MiG-29As. MiG-29 3-6133 of the Iraqi 6th Squadron was one of the MiGs and later became property of the IRIAF.
